The Floralies of Ghent comes around just once every five years and is one of the most eagerly anticipated horticultural events in Europe. Amateur and professional exhibitors from all over the world fill the huge Flanders Expo Hall with stunning floral displays. With over €300,000 in prize money at stake, competition will be intense among the exhibitors, ensuring the very highest standards. Unlike many exhibitions, Floralies is composed of 95% living material and in total there will be something like half a million flowers and plants involved. Among the innovative attractions in 2005 will be an 11m high pyramid covered in azaleas; three-dimensional ‘mosaïcultures’ created from different plant species; a garden of the butterflies in collaboration with the Knokke Garden of Butterflies, and regional horticultural products from the 10 Belgian Provinces.
